I created StepWise to serve as a resource for creating a question answering strategy. USMLE Step One tests your ability to take tests, which is important for becoming certified, but doesn’t necessarily correlate with becoming the best physician you can be. So this is to jumpstart your thought process on how to approach Step One. It is a different test than anything in undergraduate education and it took me awhile to adapt. I hope you can utilize this podcast to augment your studying for Step One.
I also like to end the podcast with a wellness or resilience tip because despite how strong all of us are to have made it this far into medical education we are all human. The stresses can just keep building and sometimes it really helps to take a step back and focus on our own health and wellness.
My name is Trey Wells. I love my wife, my kitten, and playing games of all types. On the side I also enjoy eating at all sorts of restaurants, traveling, sailing, and listening to podcasts!
I grew up in in small town Poteau, Oklahoma. We were the big county town because we had a Wal-Mart. I played golf in high school and still play a round whenever I’m not shuttered inside studying for my next test.
Out of high school I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life so I joined the Army, sort of. I went to West Point for my first two years of undergraduate school before transferring to Washington University in St. Louis. I left West Point because I didn’t want to become a doctor through the military. It is a great program but it just wasn’t for me.
After graduating WashU I went to the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine where I am now a fourth year medical student. I have discovered that I love Anesthesiology and am excited to pursue a career in it!
